What is Typemac?

Typemac is a macOS utility that plays real mechanical keyboard switch sounds on every keystroke. It uses actual recordings from hardware switches — not synthesized clicks — mapped per-key so Space sounds different from Enter, Escape from the letter keys. The audio engine runs natively with under 5ms latency, making the sound feel instant rather than like a software trick.

Three switch profiles are included: Butter Fingers (smooth linear), The Villain (deep thock), and Unreasonably Satisfying (crisp tactile clack). Typemac requires only Input Monitoring permission, which detects that a key was pressed — not what you typed. No data ever leaves your machine. It costs $7 one-time with no subscription, no account required, and works on macOS 13 Ventura or later with both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

The directories and platforms below have reviewed and listed Typemac as a noteworthy macOS utility. Each badge links to Typemac's listing on that platform.
